174 – Spring up O well! – Waheb in Suphah

That is why it is said in the Book of the Wars of the LORD: “Waheb in Suphah, And the wadis of the Arnon [River], [16] From there the Israelites went on to Beer, that is the well where the LORD said to Moses, “Gather the people together and I will give them water.” [17] Then Israel sang this song, “Spring up, O well! Sing to it, [18] The well which the leaders dug, Which the nobles of the people hollowed out With the scepter and with their staffs.” And from the wilderness Israel journeyed to Mattanah,

Numbers 21:14,16-18 AMP

The Lord commanded the children of Israel to ensure that the deeds He had done and the mighty deliverances He wrought among them were not forgotten through the generations. He told the fathers, teach it to your children. Speak about it when you awake, walk on the street, sit down, walk on the way. Bind it upon the frontlets of your eyes, so that you will not forget, Deuteronomy 11:18-20. This was critical to ensure that faith in God was maintained through all generations and the truth of God was kept from generations to generations.

Numbers 21:14 speaks of what the Lord did in Waheb in Supah and by the brooks of anon, written in the books of the Wars of the Lord. Why the King James version translates this as the red sea, most translations left the phrase as is, because it was not written in the Hebrew language. God wanted them to remember the fighting of the Lord that took place by the red sea, where He used the floods to deliver His people. It was also from here that the Lord gathered the children of Israel together when they murmured because of lack of water. He said “Gather the people unto me, that I may give them water”. Here, a rock followed them and in this rock were rivers that refreshed the children of Israel’s thirsts. Around this location, the Lord used the waters twice to save the Children of Israel; first from their enemies by a flood and next from thirst by causing the waters to spring forth.

The book of the Wars of the Lord, while not being physically available, contains information that is revealed individually to a person. It comes by the revelation of Gods word. When the children of Israel heard of these wars and rehearsed the righteous acts of the Lord, it brought peace and comfort, knowing that this same God was with them. With many waters, God delivered them, but also followed them through the wilderness as a rock, providing much water in the desert for His people when they were weary. For all who have believed in Jesus, He promised that out of our belies shall flow rivers of living waters, John 7:38. In essence, this flood is within us. Yet, water that is not flowing is stagnant and useless.

The water speaks of the Word of God, Ephesians 5:26. However, they become a flood when they are ‘alive’ or flowing. Hence, the flood coming out of us is called living waters. This is when the Word has become more than just written text to us, but life giving spirit, able to save both ourselves and those around us. The waters serve the same purpose for us. Jesus, often times, would be stirred in His spirit and speak words of deliverance, like in the case of Lazarus in John 11. This simply means, the waters within become ‘alive’ or flow for the sake of deliverance or refreshing. Paul did the same when he saw a city given to much idolatry and he was moved to preach to the whole city, as many as would hear in Athens, Acts 17:16-17. The point is, this same flood (many waters) of the Lord is within us and has the ability to save and refresh us. To activate it however, we must sing to it, which is, rehearse the righteous acts of the Lord. Speak the text until it mixes with faith within you and becomes a well. It is to him who believes that from his belly, living waters will flow, both for his deliverance and refreshing, and also those around him.

Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Spirit within me. I know that I have a river of life flowing out of me. It makes the blind, both spiritually and physically, to see and the lame to walk. It sets men free to serve the living God. It also brings much refreshing to me when I am weary. It makes me a giver of life, affecting all things around me. Lord, help me to rehearse Your righteous acts everyday. I want to speak it till it mixes with faith within me and springs up living waters. Stir up the waters within me Lord, that Your life may flow through me unhindered in Jesus name. Amen.
