173 – Oneness in the body – The family.

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” [27] God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Genesis 1:26-27 NASB

God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh day. On day six, He created man (Adam) and told them to be fruitful and multiply. It wasn’t until Genesis 2:18-25 that we see Eve on the scene. Yet, in the beginning the man created was male and female. Genesis 5:2 says Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. Adam was the name they both bare. This is picture that of what God intended for himself and man. Oneness in God’s definition is different from unity. It is when two or more things cannot be seen separately. Oneness does not end in the physical, it is spiritual. The oneness is such that there should not be any difference in opinions.

God’s intent is that his church be one as He and His father are one, John 17:21-23. This begins in the smallest unit of His church, the family. Today, the church is barely distinguished from the World because the family has not distinguished themselves from the world. You can see families where children are exhibiting traits that are worldly, because of their upbringing. Just like Adam was two in one, the husband and wife are two in one and they express God’s program for eternity on the earth. It starts in the family.

The story of Moses in Exodus 1 gives an example of the functioning of a family according to God’s design. Moses was born in a time where the seed of the union of the family, which God intended to use to share His righteousness on the earth were being killed. Moses was born and hid for three month, then released in faith when they could not hide him anymore. It was then that Pharaoh’s daughter took him up and gave him back to his mother. His mother taught Moses the ways of the Lord. It was after he was fully grown, he decided not to be called the son of Pharaoh, choosing rather to be afflicted with God’s people. Mothers are to teach their young children, this is the pattern, Proverbs 1:8, Proverbs 31:1, Titus 2:4. The role of the father as the priest of the house is to instruct and command his household after the Lord. He is to teach his wife the Word of God, Genesis 18:19, 1 Timothy 3:4-5. In carrying out God’s commandment in the house unit, there is no contention and there is no comparison and the church grows to be healthy and fruitful as God intended.

This was the case of Samuel, in 1 Samuel 1. Hannah trained and weaned him before handing him to Eli, not because her husband could not do that, but especially at this stage, this was her responsibility. In the case of the wedding at Canaan of Galilee, John 2, Mary told Jesus that there was no wine. Even though he said his hour had not yet come, due to the closeness she had with him, having instructed him, she could tell the servants to do whatever He asked them to do and He indeed performed a miracle.

We are in an age where the governments are like Pharaoh, laying claim to children and asking parents to train their children in the way of society. Parents have to be intentional in training their children in the way of the Lord. Our children need to show this reverence for God. The worship of God is the totality of our daily lives. All this is ingrained in children from the family unit. Our worship for God is personal and should be the same regardless of where we are located. We have a God who sees all things. This starts in families that are of one mind, united to do God’s purpose.

Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, You have given us Your command and told us Your heart for Your church which begins in the family. We know that the problems in society are due to not following the due order in families and society will be restored when our families are back in order, having children brought up as You have commanded. Father, help our men to be priests in the house, instructing and commanding their households after you. Help our women to be home keepers, teaching their children the ways of the Lord. Let the husband and wives be one, united in executing the program of the Lord on the earth, in Jesus name. Amen.
