111 – A counsel for the transition 1

And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

Mark 4:35 KJV

Transition simply means a timely movement from one place to another. A butterfly has various stages: the egg, the larva, the pupa, and the butterfly. These changes happen in due time, not just because the butterfly wants to change. In Mark 4:35, the Lord, following the will of His father set out to cross the sea and was met with a storm while sleeping in the boat. Yet it was of necessity that He moved. It is clear to everyone that the world is in transition. The world we knew two years ago is quite different from what we know now. The times are darker, yet in all these, it is in darkness that the light of God’s word shines brighter upon us.

Transitions happen individually and collectively. There are key things needed for every transition: Clarity of purpose, the voice or the leading of the Lord and the right timing. In essence, God ordained transitions are not directionless, but purposeful. They are initiated by His voice and are at His timing. Jesus was a man very conscious of God’s timing. John 9:4 says, “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” He also always waited for God’s lead. John 5:30 says “I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.“. Also, clarity of purpose was a key thing that characterized the life of Jesus.

For today, the emphasis is knowing purpose. Everything God does is intentional. Jesus decided to sail across the sea in Mark 4, not because He liked storms or was ignorant that a storm was coming, but because a man on the other side needed Him and the disciples needed a new revelation of who He is. The bible says where there is no vision, the people perish, Proverbs 29:18. A wise person also said, where purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable. When value is placed on your life, the issue of temptation reduces. Consider Joseph, after he had seen the purpose for his life, the stars bowing down before him, why would he sleep with Potiphar’s wife, Genesis 49:5-20. The purpose for anything is the reason for which anything was created. In our case, it is to fulfill the Will of God for our lives. Isaiah 46:10. Every human has a purpose for which they are created. Knowing this and walking in it, is also our sole source of satisfaction and fulfilment. Jesus said in John 4:34 that His meat (that which satisfies Him) is to do God’s will and finish it. This is because that is what He was created for. When you do that which you are designed to do, it gives you joy.

During the time of transition for Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3, God visited him and Gave Him clarity of the call on His life. Abraham was to be a father of many nations and for this cause, he had to transit or move. In Genesis 15:1-6, God came to Him, reiterating the purpose He had for Abraham and leading Him with His voice. In Genesis 17, Abraham was almost veering off, but God came to Him again, restating purpose and leading Him by His word and in Genesis 21, we see the beginning of the fulfilment of this Word in the birth of Isaac. During every transition, we must seek God again and again to get a clear understanding of the journey. While there is the ultimate purpose of God for your life, there is His purpose per season per time. We find this purpose as we interact with the Word of God. Our eyes are to be on the Lord, faithfully waiting and watching in prayer. We are also to submit ourselves to God’s leading and dealings for our lives, that we may arrive at His intended destination.

God moved the Israelites from Egypt to Canaan and with each move, Joshua and Caleb who understood the plan of God for Israel, to give them a land promised to Abraham, partook of this promise. God is doing great things in these times and His intent is to refine His church that we may be the perfection of beauty. For this cause, He will lead us collectively and individually through various seasons, some seemingly dark yet, lit by the light of His presence. It is only in darkness that we can shine bright. However, it is for lack of knowledge that those who are to shine are covered with gross darkness and perish. Now is the time to seek God, to understand His purpose that we may shine bright as lights in this dark world.

Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, today I pray that the eyes of my understanding be open that I may know my purpose and the hope of Your calling. Help me to keep my eyes on You throughout this transition. I know that the reason for tthe transition is that I may come closer and closer to the plan You have for me to be the perfection of beauty in this world. May I not be distracted by lust and miss this great promise.
