A Focused Mind – “Think on These Things”

A Focused Mind – “Think on These Things”

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
— Philippians 4:8 (NKJV)

This verse follows Paul’s command to “be anxious for nothing”—reminding us that God’s peace is available to guard our hearts and our minds. But here’s the key: we have a role to play.

The enemy works overtime to fill our minds with anxious, toxic, and discouraging thoughts. But as believers, we are not powerless. We have a choice. We can choose what we meditate on.

Yes, thoughts may come uninvited—but not every thought deserves a seat at the table of your mind. You may not control the arrival of every thought, but by the Spirit, you can control which ones stay.

So, what should we allow to dwell in our minds? Philippians 4:8 gives us the list:
Truth. Honor. Justice. Purity. Beauty. Goodness. Virtue. Praise.

These aren’t just pleasant ideas—they are the thoughts of God toward us, and when we meditate on them, they begin to shape us. Our thinking aligns with God’s truth. And His peace—not anxiety—takes root.

Reflection: What have your thoughts been dwelling on lately? Are they drawing you closer to God—or weighing you down? What would change if you intentionally chose to dwell on what is pure and praiseworthy?

Let today be a reset. Choose what you think on. Anchor your mind in truth, and watch peace take the place of anxiety.

Prayer: Lord, I surrender my thoughts to You. Help me to reject every lie and anxious whisper of the enemy, and instead fix my mind on what is true, pure, and good. Teach me to think with Your perspective. I choose today to meditate on what brings life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
